DESIGNERS
Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale
http://www.artinstitutes.edu/fortlauderdale/
Designers - Norma Ayee, Faculty Advisor; Buck Miller, Instructor; Margaret Montes and Valentine Vigil, Alumni; and Linda Johnston, Rose Abdallah, Edlie Charles, Carol Mac Martin, Blaine Rowland, Students.
The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale has been a contributing partner in the South Florida Interior Design Community since opening its doors in 1968 and is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (formally known as FIDER). The Art Institute's Interior Design Department has over 300 years of combined experience in the field of interior design. This year the Art Institute's Interior Design Activities Club has been honored once again when they were invited to participate in the American Red Cross 2008 Designers' Show House.
Under the guidance of Faculty Advisor Norma Ayee, IDEC, the Interior Design Activities Club has stepped up to the challenge of transforming the Front Downstairs Guest Suite of the Contemporary Designer's Show House into a College student's Bedroom/Study Suite. Ms Ayee brings many years of design experience with various large companies, the principal of Ayee Designs and as a product and furniture designer. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the New York School of Interior Design, a Master's degree in Construction Management from Florida International University, a member of the Interior Design Education Council and has won numerous awards from Who's Who Among American Teachers. She has almost 30 years as a member of the Interior Design faculty to act as advisor/ mentor to the design team.
The Interior Design Activities Club includes students in both the Residential Design Diploma and the Interior Design Bachelors Degree programs. The goal of the Interior Design Activities club is to bring all Interior Design students together to share knowledge and experiences while engaging in a variety of activities relating to the Interior Design field and community service.
This year the design team comprises of the Art Institute's family of students, alumni, and faculty to bring our creative resources together to accomplish the team's design concept. Our inspiration is "the College Student" who is studying Interactive multi-media technology and requires the special needs of a home media/computer system. This sets the mood for a modern/contemporary look which we will continue by installing fabric upholstered wall panels throughout the room. A square shaped chrome and wire modern chandelier will be used to compliment the media computer system. The square geometric shape will be carried to the flooring by installing carpet tiles. The cool modern/contemporary look will be offset by adding the warmth of wood in a Raleo wood bed headboard and a custom wood desk/wall unit. The design will be carried through to the bathroom with a custom designed vanity by Blaine Rowland, nephew of Jerry Rowland of Handcraft Woodworking Inc.
We hope to create an environment that will promote inspiration for any up and coming multi-media mogul as well as a comfortable area to wind down and relax.
